The 80m long steel freighter St George has been scuttled as an artificial reef in the national park in early 1999. Situated on the south east coast a short boat journey from the port of Bayahibe, the freighter is placed upright in 30-40m depth and is memorable for the diversity of marine life. You descend through a cloud of jacks swirling all around you then the wreck looms out of the blue. The wreck is easily accessed if the shot line is anchored to the stern.

The island was baptized "Saona" by Christopher Columbus, who discovered it in May 1494 during his second voyage to the Americas. The name was meant "... to honor Michele da Cuneo, [Columbus'] friend from Savona."^[1] Columbus named Michele da Cuneo the first governor of the island.^[2]
Saona Island and Savona (now part of Liguria, northern Italy) still have twinning relationships. The small powerplant in Saona Island is a gift of Savona.

Aperçu plusieurs variétés de coureaux et de poissons, tortues, grooper, langoustes.

Une excellente équipe de dive master et d'instructeur, ils ont d'excellents bateaux et un excellent service, ils parlent presque tous français et si non c'est en anglais et en espagnol que sa ce passe. Pour ce qui est des plongées, elles sont toutes excellentes,  la vie marine est riche en poissons et les formations de coraux sont très impressionnants, grottes, arches, vallées etc.
